Aldar Properties PJSC (Arab. شركة الدار العقارية) is the construction, managing and investment company with its head office in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates. It issues and builds such projects as Al Raha Beach, Al Jimi Shopping Centre, Al Raha Gardens, the Yas Island (includes Yas Marina, Ferrari World and Yas Marina hotel, Al Gurm Resort and the Abu Dhabi Central Market.
The company was founded in 2000 under the UAE Offsets Programme. Its first employee was Christopher Sims MRICS, MHKIS, ACIArb, who built the company from the scratch. The first project was Al Jimi Shopping Centre in Al Ain, awarded by ICSC; so far, it is the only trade real estate in the UAE that won such a prestigious international award.
ALDAR Properties PJSC pays much attention to support of Abu Dhabi legacy through spirit (character) that gives sense and consistency of aim, by giving a promise “Construction of the Nation”. The company is a leader in Abu Dhabi dvelopment; it is charged with multi-billion (in AEDs) civil projects on develoment of the UAE capital, development of new commerce sectors, housing provision, retail trade and trade of real estate for entertainment. The company mission is strengthening the position of Abu Dhabi as the most dynamic and far-sighted real estate market in the UAE, by creating unique and prestigious projects, that could be accepted as reference and, at the same time, following the city cultural and natural heritage. In 2004, the company passed the IPO procedure at the Abu Dhabi stock exchange by having made an offer at the cost of 1.5 bln AED (USD 408 mln); soon, the company announded the 72 billion cost of housing. Then, ALDAR made the largest primary public placement in the UAE history. Christopher Sims, the company founder, CEO, left the company in March 2006 after seven and a half years of work. Full area sold at retail in all projects exceeds 1.5 mln m2 so far.
In 2007, entrance to the international market was announced through union with South Johor Investment Corp (SJIC) in a deal representing the largest international construction company in Malaysia.
In October 2007, the plans of constructing a high-rise multi-functional complex called Abu Dhabi Plaza in the capital of Kazakhstan were announced. Upon the construction completion in 2015, one of its towers should become the tallest building in Kazakhstan and Central Asia.
